This article will focus on utilizing self esteem affirmations to help you raise your level of self esteem.

Self Esteem Affirmations Defined

First of all let's dismiss the exotic notion of affirmations. You are already using these whether or not you put that label on the activity. Affirmations are simply the repeating of a suggestion to yourself. The reason this is important here is because currently if you have low self esteem then the balance of things that you say to yourself on a daily basis is tilted a lot more toward the negative then the positive. Things like "You can't do anything right" or "You're not good enough". In order to raise your self esteem we need to effectively change that habit of thinking so that you start to subconsciously say positive things about yourself. Things like "I knew I could do it" or "I'm a great pick for the task given to me"

Are Affirmations Effective?

Many studies on this subject would suggest unilaterally that using affirmations is an effective way to raise a low self esteem. It's especially exciting for a person who has been doing this long enough to catch their inner dialogue change from what they remember it being most of there lives to something that is positive and quickly becoming more and more a sign of who they are. Keep in mind that your negative thought habits didn't all show up in one day and conversely they won't all leave in one day either. The key to success with this is daily consistency.

In addition to just making up new positive affirmations that focus on what you want rather then what you don't want you may also want to add the following exercise into your daily affirmation practice. Whenever you become aware of a negative inner dialogue taking place then you need to make a mental stop and reverse the conversation to one with positive intent. For example, if you catch your inner dialogue stating something like "you are never good enough" then make a mental stop and make a mental statement of "I am always good enough". These positive types of self esteem affirmations will go along way toward raising your self esteem.

As stated above the continued daily use of affirmations is what makes them effective. This is true because with time the new positive ideas you are suggesting to yourself are becoming more and more natural.
